+WHY HIRE A MARQUEE FOR YOUR WEDDING?
Hiring a marquee for your wedding gives you the flexibility you might need to create your dream wedding. For instance, let’s say you’ve found a gorgeous location, but there’s no suitable venue for your wedding celebration. In that case, you can use a marquee to literally “create” your venue from scratch.
The most significant selling point with marquees is that they can be built anywhere within reason. Whether you want a rooftop wedding in central London or you want to get lost in a rural farmer’s field in Surrey, hiring a marquee allows you to host your wedding celebrations (almost) wherever you please. On Tour Events has over 25 years experience in the wedding & events industry, we are are highly recommended by many of the UK's leading wedding planners & have a faultless reputation for delivering an exceptional production with a friendly service.
Another positive feature of marquees is that you can use them to temporarily extend the usable space of a venue. If you’ve found a charming, quaint venue that just doesn’t have the capacity to host the type of ceremony or celebration you are looking for. You can simply hire a marquee to dramatically increase the amount of space you have to work with.
Finally, wedding marquees provide you with the protection you may or may not need from the weather. You have the feel of an outdoor celebration without any of the associated drawbacks. If the elements do their best to rain on your parade, you have robust protection in a marquee. Just as you do if you have a summer wedding that is unbearably hot (yes, this DOES happen sometimes!).
So if you’ve decided to have a marquee, the question is, which type of marquee do you go for?
+WHICH TYPE OF MARQUEE SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR MY WEDDING?
If you’re thinking, “Aren’t all marquees pretty much the same?” you’re in for a bit of a shock! Yes, there’s the conventional white marquee you might well be thinking of. But today’s marquees cover a broad spectrum of designs, including giant tipis and trapeze-style tents.
With that in mind, let’s walk you through some of our most popular options.
What many would call the “most traditional” marquee design, these are the types of marquees that you’ve seen at your village fêtes or charity fun runs. Usually white, this is effectively a huge tent supported by poles, guy ropes, and tents.
If you want to feel as though you are outdoors, these are a great option, and you can even roll up the sides to allow a breeze to pass through if you have your wedding celebration on a particularly balmy day. Finally, they are a little more flexible regarding setup and positioning, with sloping or even ground a possibility.
These marquees are like canvas marquees on steroids. They are very much about bringing the indoors, outside. So while they have a similar overall look to a canvas marquee, they are much more robust. They have a steel frame and complete with solid floors, proper walls, and real windows. Heating, lighting, and air conditioning (should you need it) are all included in this type of marquee.
The main drawback is that they are less flexible about where they can be positioned, and as you’d expect, they are considerably more expensive to hire. However, one very cool option with a framed marquee is a transparent ceiling. A clear marquee is a real show-stopper and allows you to enjoy your evening while looking up at the stars above!
+GIANT TIPIS (TEEPEES)
Giant tipis (or teepees as they are sometimes spelt) are among the most popular choices for weddings these days. Tipis have design variations themselves. However, the general structure is made up of poles, interior exposed beams, and guy ropes holding everything in place. You can also join one, two, or even three of these tents together to make a “super” tipi.
They can feel a lot more cosy and rustic due to their sloping slopes, exposed wooden beams, and often sandy-coloured complexion. Also, they are almost always accompanied by festoon or fairy lighting that really brings them to life.
Another visually appealing design is that of trapeze marquees (sometimes referred to as stretch tents). As the name suggests, these structures actually utilise rods and tension to keep them in place, and they only effectively provide a “ceiling” to whatever may be happening underneath.
This feature makes them incredibly flexible when it comes to the internal layout. And because they are so minimal in their design, they are often used by happy couples who want to hedge their bets against the weather during an outdoor wedding ceremony.
+HOW MUCH DOES A COST TO HIRE A WEDDING MARQUEE?
It’s difficult to put precise figures on wedding marquee hire because there are so many factors at play. Your venue, the number of guests, the available surface area, and the condition of the ground at the location you’re proposing all play their part, for example.
To put some ballpark figures together for you, the lowest figure we could supply a wedding marquee for would be in the region of £6,000 - £8,000 with in the London, Surrey area. For a wedding with 180-220 guests, with no additional specific requirements, you would be looking in the region of £10,000 to £15,000 with the lining, wedding lighting & some production included.
At the upper end of the pricing spectrum, you could easily part with £25,000 for an all-singing, all-dancing framed wedding marquee that includes extras such as flooring, doors, heating options, lining, and premium tables and chairs again this price example is based on the marquee being installed in tot London, Surrey areas.
We can create any marquee-based setting you can imagine, so if you want to get some more specific costs, make sure to give On Tour Events a call or send us an email, and we’ll come back to you within 24 hours with an accurate cost for your wedding.
SOME PRICE EXAMPLES OF HOW MUCH WEDDING MARQUEE COSTS FOR HIRE
Most weddings these days have live bands playing on the stage and a common request for us to design and deliver a tiered white carpeted stage for a wedding in either a hotel or a wedding marquee.
The standard wedding band has between 6 to 8 members in it so let's use that for this price example. We would suggest a stage size somewhere around 5 meter wide by 3 meters deep, now depending on the complexity of the stage design prices fluctuate but again let's assume you are going for a simple 3 tiered stage with no curved edges covered in white with fascia boards
On Tour Events would suggest a budget of around £1,200 £1,800 depending on location & access to where to stage is to be built. If the floor was to be uneven then the cost would increase, if your wedding is taking place in London, easy access to the venue & the floor is flat your spend less.
So you've booked a wedding marquee and you have around 150 to 250 guests attending, you've booked a DJ or live band and you want to make sure that the lighting is right.
How much does wedding lighting cost? On Tour Events will give you an example below:
In this example we're going to assume that no lighting can be hung or suspended from the roof of the marquee / wedding venue.
What we call in a trade a ''wedding lighting floor package'' would be appropriate for this.
Lighting package to cover 150 - 200 we would suggest a budget of somewhere around £1,000 to £2,000 this would not include suspending or hanging any lighting from the roof, but would include a lighting technician. Pricing example is based on your wedding being held in the London or Surrey areas.
Often a bride and groom or email as a picture of a wedding venue with the ceiling covered with gorgeous ''lighting effect'' which normally consists a pattern all over the ceiling often in tungsten.
This is what's called a ''Gobo Breakup Effect'' and is very common in the wedding and events industry as it can add texture to the walls, ceilings, floors or tables at your wedding. A common question is how much does this sort of wedding lighting cost? Costs depend on the size of the venue and how elaborate you want to.
Based on your average wedding of 100 to 150 guests where a client wants to cover the walls and ceilings of the wedding venue we would suggest a minimum budget of somewhere between £800 £1,500
