We will now pass you over to Elise from our wedding & design team talk over ways to make your wedding stand out with texture lighting.
I'am Elise from On Tour Events, thanks for joining me & reading my article on textured lighting. This blog post is all about wedding texture lighting. This is a really cool type of wedding lighting that's going to add such a unique look to your venue. So let's jump right in.
First thing's first, what is wedding texture lighting?
So texture lighting is a type of wedding light that projects patterns in light. You can create all different kinds of designs like abstract art or shapes or even scenery, like a scene of a forest or a garden of flowers. This type of lighting is done using a lighting Gobo projector. That's a special type of AV projector that has a small disc inside the light with the design.
We've got another blog coming up that talks all about Gobo projectors and it's pretty much the same thing. The main difference is that texture lighting is a large format type of Gobo, so it's going to cover an entire wall or a whole ceiling. So it's really big and that's the main difference between texture lighting and your traditional Gobo or monogram lights.
So where can you use texture lighting?
There are so many places that you can use texture lighting for your wedding. One great option is to do it across the entire walls of the wedding venue, so you can project patterns and put them in different colors, and this is going to really add dimension to your room, it's such a beautiful effect & you can also put it on the dance floor. You can do patterns or names or anything you want and this really makes the dance floor a focal point. You could also project texture lighting on the ceiling of your wedding venue.
If you want to add a little interest or just do something different, you could do star patterns or anything that you want. Texture lights also look amazing on tents. You can shine them on the walls or the ceiling of the tent for a really gorgeous look. I've seen couples also use texture lighting on the aisle of the ceremony. So you just project that pattern so it's lining the aisle and it's something so different and so magical as the bride walks down the aisle.
So how do you set up texture lighting? Well 9 times out of 10 On Tour Events is on site & providing a full turnkey wedding production service but for those who want to hire the lighting themselfs, it's actually so easy to set up texture lights. All you do is plug it in, set it on a table, and point it at the wall, that's all there is to it.
So these projectors come pre-loaded with your design, so literally all you have to do is plug it in. Now if you do want to project down onto the dance floor, you'll want to use a lighting tripod. So you just screw the projector onto the tripod and then you can raise the tripod up in the air, that's how you get that projector to be up high and shine down at the dance floor.
How about estimating the quantity of lights?
So the biggest question we get is, how many lights do you need for a wedding venue? Well, it just depends on what kind of look you're trying to achieve and where you're going to put the projector? So let me explain something first. With projectors like this, the way it works is that the farther away the projector is from the wall, the bigger the image is going to be.
So for example if you've got that projector 20 feet away from the wall, the image will be 10 feet wide. At 40 feet away from the wall, the image is 20 feet wide.So you get the idea, the first thing that you want to do is figure out where you'll be putting that projector in your venue. Measure that distance.
Let's say that you're going to have the projector 50 feet away from the wall, that means your image is going to be 25 feet wide. So each projector will cover 20 feet wide of wall. Then you just want to think about how much area you actually want to cover? Do you want to just cover that 25 foot area or do you want to cover more? So if you've got say a 100 foot long wall, that means you would need four lights to cover the entire thing.
So it's pretty easy, once you get the formula down, and of course if you hate math, don't worry, we also have a calculator on our website over on the main On Tour Events website or you can just send us an email or give us a call we can help with the lighting & calculate exactly how many texture lights you need. And of course, if you have questions feel free to get in touch with me, I'm always happy to help.
So that's a quick look at ''mostly'' everything you need to know about texture lighting. I hope you girls & guys enjoyed learning how to get this amazing look for your wedding & don't forget to check out all of our other wedding blogs which can be found here right.
